As rain, stone, whisky and castles are some key elements to my expected happiness in my new home country, I had probably better hurry getting on with some of them. First reports to both native and adopted motherlands have been on the subject of lack of rain. Although a lot of people seem to leave Dublin for the weather, for me it was rather on the dry side, and my next chosen destination has been based on the exact notion that I can expect similar tendencies in downpour from what I've been used to in Bergen and in Ireland. But the first days here have been amazingly (and almost disappointingly) sunny, giving me that none-too-common October sunburn usually only connected with more southernly lands. This is making me think that I may have gotten the wrong idea about Scotland (similarly to what many people have told me about prices: things aren't THAT much cheaper here, except maybe for alcohol and rent...). We spent most of Friday and Saturday walking and lounging in the sun, and I've already had lunch outside twice. To be fair, sitting in Princes Street Gardens, sun in your face, fantastic colours on the falling leaves, reading Muriel Sparks and listening to unfamiliar accents is definitely a day worth doing, so I am not complaining! And today, as we were making our way to Leith, the drizzle comfortably started to make an appearance, and with it hopes for more...
Sunny or not: Scotland, I am looking forward to getting to know you properly. Deep fried Mars bars, kilts and Loch Ness - not all there is to you!
